"A big breakthrough for Christian in reading was being able to read to Nelson, a therapy dog. This is the first time he's had an experience to read out loud and having an audience listen to him" - Peggy Humcke, Parent

Child With A Therapy Dog Meet the R.O.C.K. Group

What is the R.O.C.K. group?

The R.O.C.K. (Reading Out loud Creates Knowledge) is a reading program designed to encourage students with learning disabilities to read for fun. Reading instruction in the Language Learning Disabilities class emphasizes mastering the sound/symbol relationship of letters and words, which leaves little time left over for reading for pleasure. The R.O.C.K. Group meets that need by making reading "fun" for those children who have the most difficulty reading. The premise is simple, the students read to nonjudgmental audiences comprised of either therapy dogs or preschool/kindergarten children (if part of the school population).
